چکیده

-Bioremediation is the application of biological process principles to the treatment of groundwater, soil and sludge contaminated with hazardous chemicals. It requires the control and manipulation of microbial processes in surface reactors or in the subsurface. Of prime importance, microorganisms are capable of producing enzymes that will degrade the hazardous chemical (target compound) as enzymes degrade compounds through exploitation of the organism’s energy need. Attempts were made to study the acclimated microorganism as Bacillus subtilis isolated from industrial effluent soil to grow and concentrate metals from different concentrations of Manganese, Lead and Cadmium containing medium. Well defined growth of microorganism was observed in the medium containing different concentrations (50 μg/ml, 100 μg/ml, 150 μg/ml, 200 μg/ml and 250 μg/ml.) of Manganese, Lead and Cadmium, respectively. The maximum uptake was observed on cell growth with 200 μg/ml concentration and further increase in the metal concentration was found to decrease uptake.

Batch Studies on Biosorption of Chromium from Waste Water using Bacterial Cultures

Biosorption can be an effective technique for the treatment of heavy metal bearing waste water resulting from humuns and industrial activities. Several gram positive and gram negative bacteria have the ability to remove the heavy metals and there by making water contaminant free. It has been reported that attenuated bacterial biomass have greater biosorption capability than viable cells. In the...

Biosurfactant production by Bacillus subtilis using corn steep liquor as culture medium

In this work, biosurfactant production by Bacillus subtilis #573 was evaluated using corn steep liquor (CSL) as culture medium. The best results were obtained in a culture medium consisting of 10% (v/v) of CSL, with a biosurfactant production of about 1.3 g/l. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report describing biosurfactant production by B. subtilis using CSL as culture medium. S...

Effective Factors and Molecular Mechanisms of Heavy Metal Bioremediation Using Cyanobacteria

The sustainability and non-biodegradability of heavy metals, on the one hand, and the increasing environmental pollution caused by industrial wastewater on the other hand have increased the attention to heavy metal remediation. Cyanobacteria are one of the most important agents of heavy metals removal in drought and aquatic environments. Their ability to remove metals is related to various mech...

Effect of Electrokinetic on Bioremediation of Disulfide Oil Contaminated Soil

The removal of disulfide oil (DSO) from contaminated soil was studied by the bioremediation method and the influence of electrokinetic on the bioremediation process was investigated. The bacillus subtilis strain was used in the bioremediation process. The effects of humidity, time and DSO concentration in soil was studied. The experimental results for the bioremediation of DSO show, the removal...
